Will You Be Taking The Blue Pill Or Red Pill?
So much anger is passing between people. Families are divided, friends stop speaking, strangers hate each other. I think a lot of this is based on our personal beliefs and convictions, with an intolerance to understand or educate ourselves on opposing beliefs and convictions
AND we don’t want to be wrong in ours.
One of the things I continue to learn is that we can hold a very strong belief about something and in an instant new information can present itself and rip that belief to shreds.
Here Comes Santa Clause
For example, as a child I believed in Santa Clause far longer than most kids. So much so that the school called my mother to tell her she really needed to tell me the truth. Kids and some adults were brutal towards me with their own belief that Santa wasn’t real. I don’t recall one person asking me why I so strongly believed.
It went far beyond ‘because my mother told me so.’ There was a combination of unexplained events, and a large amount of information that was withheld or construed. This part of my life has helped shape how I take in information and educate myself. I also really hate believing lies.
Even after my mother revealed her belief of Santa, I scoured every book I could find to try to discover who or what Santa Clause really was and was not. The subject is quite interesting, enlightening, and sometimes dark, but guess what, as far as I dug…
I still didn’t uncover the full truth.
This appears to be the case more than not in this life.
I understand not wanting to belief false information, but most things are not black and white, no matter how much we want them to be. There may be so many shades of grey – gray to sift through, it may cause your search for absolute truth impossible to discover. Having a schooled education does not mean you have all the information or even the right information on any subject. It definitely does not mean you are smarter than someone who never went to school. I have met some pretty ignorant people with several degrees and some truly intelligent human beings who never got a degree or finish grade school.
Before you engage someone with your believed facts make sure you understand why you belief the way you do and be open to understand why the other person believes the way they do.
Be aware, that most people when first confronted with different beliefs and convictions are so close minded and blind that nothing you present will convince them of any other truth. You are threatening their absolute truth and unfortunately, you will mostly be met with anger, name calling, threats, and derogatory remarks about your lack of knowledge and intelligence. They will refuse to believe there is a possibility that their truth is flawed or flat-out false.
Know this, you can not truly convince someone to change their beliefs and convictions. You can plant seeds, but even this can not be fruitful without first educating yourself about both sides of the matter. You need to be prepared. Investigate the matter at hand for yourself. With an open mind. Understand exactly what you are getting yourself into before you commit to trying to open someone else’s mind to the possibility that they may be wrong.
Because you may just discover it’s your own beliefs and convictions that need changing.
Matrix Quote about Blue Pill or Red Pill
*After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill—the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill—you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.* – The Matrix-
